The CLEVELAND C42052 is a double-end, two-flute square end mill machined from high speed steel (HSS). It is designed for general-purpose milling operations including slotting, profiling, and peripheral cutting in cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and steel. The tool features a 5/32-inch cutting diameter, a 7/16-inch length of cut, and a 3/8-inch straight cylindrical shank with a Weldon flat for positive drive retention. With a 30-degree helix angle and spiral flute geometry, the C42052 delivers efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. It is centercutting, allowing direct plunge entry into the workpiece without a pre-drilled pilot hole. This tool is installed and used by machinists, toolmakers, and CNC operators in job shop and production environments.
The C42052 belongs to the Cleveland HD-2 series, a regular-length double-end mill line intended for light-to-medium material removal on ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces. At 3-1/8 inches overall length with an uncoated HSS body, it is well suited to manual mills, knee mills, and CNC machining centers where tool reach requirements are moderate. The double-end configuration provides two usable cutting ends, extending tool life before replacement. Primary workpiece materials include cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and steel.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use end mill compatible with standard 3/8-inch end mill holders, collet chucks, and Weldon-style set-screw holders on manual and CNC milling machines. Primary workpiece materials include cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and steel as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation is performed by machinists using a standard end mill holder or collet chuck sized to the 3/8-inch shank diameter. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the power is locked out before loading or unloading the tool. The Weldon flat must be oriented to align with the set screw in the holder to prevent tool pull-out under load. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before beginning cuts, particularly in tight-tolerance applications.
