The CLEVELAND C40360 is a single-end square end mill designed for material removal operations in non-ferrous metals and similar workpiece materials. Manufactured from powdered metal (PM), this end mill offers a 1 inch cutting diameter and a 3 inch length of cut, making it well suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling passes that require extended reach into a workpiece. The 42-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and reduces cutting forces. The straight-cylindrical shank with Weldon flat provides positive drive retention in standard end mill holders. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary installers of this tool.
The C40360 belongs to the Cleveland PM-539R series, targeted at machining centers and manual knee mills running non-ferrous workpiece materials such as aluminum, brass, copper, and similar alloys. The 3-flute geometry balances chip clearance with surface finish, making it a practical choice for slotting operations in softer materials where flute gullet size matters. The regular length classification and 1 inch shank diameter make it compatible with standard ER, CAT, BT, and straight-bore end mill tooling systems commonly found in production and job-shop environments.

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the control is in E-stop or lockout-tagout state before loading or unloading the tool. Seat the shank fully into the holder to the recommended gauge-line depth and tighten the set screw against the Weldon flat to the holder specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a production cut, as excessive runout accelerates tool wear and degrades surface finish.
