The CLEVELAND C40074 is a 3-flute powdered metal square end mill designed for material removal, profiling, slotting, and contouring operations on non-ferrous metals and similar materials. It features a 3/8 inch cutting diameter, a 1-1/2 inch length of cut, and a 3-1/4 inch overall length. The 42-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. The centercutting geometry allows plunge entry directly into the workpiece. This tool is uncoated and intended for shops and machinists running CNC machining centers or manual mills where a reliable, production-grade powdered metal end mill is required.
This end mill is suited for milling non-ferrous metals in both job shop and production environments. The straight cylindrical shank with Weldon flat accepts standard end mill holders and set-screw style toolholders with a 3/8 inch bore. The regular-length configuration makes it a practical choice for general-purpose side milling, peripheral profiling, and slot cutting where extended reach is not required. Right-hand cut and right-hand spiral flute geometry follows standard convention for conventional and climb milling passes.
Designed for use in standard 3/8 inch end mill holders, collet chucks, and Weldon-flat set-screw toolholders on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. Primary workpiece material designation is non-ferrous metals (Material Code: N), per the Series PM-539R specification.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing tooling. Seat the Weldon flat against the set screw in the toolholder to prevent axial pullout under load. Verify runout at the cutting edge with a dial indicator before beginning production cuts, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear and reduces tool life.
