The CLEVELAND C32980 is a cobalt square end mill built for cutting high-temperature alloys, stainless steel, and steel. It runs a 7/32 inch (0.2188 inch) cutting diameter with a 9/16 inch length of cut and a 3/8 inch straight-cylindrical or Weldon flat shank. Overall length is 3-1/4 inches. The four-flute, right-hand spiral geometry with a 30-degree helix angle promotes chip evacuation and surface finish in tough materials. A TiCN coating adds surface hardness and lubricity, extending tool life compared to uncoated cobalt. Manufactured to M42 cobalt grade, this end mill is center-cutting, allowing plunge entry. It belongs to the HDC-4C series, which is designed for demanding ferrous and heat-resistant alloy applications.
This end mill is suited for milling, slotting, and profiling operations on workpieces in stainless steel, high-temperature alloys, and general steel. The double-end configuration provides two usable cutting ends, improving cost-per-cut in production environments. The regular-length geometry fits standard vertical machining centers, CNC knee mills, and manual mills where 3-1/4 inch overall length clearance is available. The Weldon flat shank option supports positive drive in side-lock holders, reducing pullout risk under aggressive feeds.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use cutting tool in the Cleveland HDC-4C series, suitable for standard 3/8 inch shank tool holders on CNC and manual milling machines.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the end mill. Seat the shank fully into the holder and torque the set screw or collet nut to the holder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before engaging the first cut, and confirm feed and speed parameters are appropriate for the workpiece material and machine rigidity.
