The CLEVELAND C25408 is a straight-flute chucking reamer designed for precision hole finishing in machining applications. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, it delivers consistent dimensional accuracy when enlarging or finishing drilled holes to close tolerances. The reamer features a 0.2055-inch cutting diameter — wire gauge size 5 — with a straight shank for secure chuck mounting. Six flutes provide smooth cutting action and efficient chip evacuation during right-hand rotation. With a 5-inch overall length and a 1.25-inch flute length, it is suited for shallow-to-moderate depth reaming operations on a range of materials.
This chucking reamer is used in machine shop environments where hole diameter accuracy is critical. It is installed in drill presses, lathes, milling machines, or CNC machining centers using a standard drill chuck or collet. Typical applications include finishing clearance holes for dowel pins, bearing bores, and precision-fit fastener locations in metal fabrication and production machining. The straight-flute geometry performs well in through-holes and short blind holes where chip packing is not a concern.
Designed as an OEM-style chucking reamer for use in any machine tool equipped with a standard drill chuck or collet capable of accepting a straight shank reamer in the 0.2055-inch diameter range.
A licensed machinist or tooling technician should install this reamer in a properly aligned spindle to avoid runout that can cause oversize or out-of-round holes. Always ensure the workpiece and machine are secured and the spindle is fully stopped before changing tooling. Use cutting fluid appropriate to the workpiece material to extend tool life and maintain surface finish quality. Do not use this reamer to remove excessive stock — pre-drill or bore the hole to within a few thousandths of final diameter before reaming.
