The CLEVELAND C24179 is a high speed steel spotting drill designed to create accurate center indentations before full drilling operations. With a 1 inch cutting diameter and a 120 degree point angle, this tool establishes precise starting points that guide twist drills, reducing wander and improving hole location accuracy. The 5 inch overall length and 1.7500 inch flute length suit it for standard machining setups on mills and drill presses. The bright, uncoated finish is typical for general purpose HSS tooling where a supplemental coating is not required. Machinists, tool and die workers, and CNC operators are the primary users of this type of drill.
The C24179 is suited for general purpose spotting applications in production and job shop environments. It performs well in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where a clean, accurate starting location is needed before follow-through drilling, reaming, or tapping. The straight cylindrical shank allows direct chucking in standard drill chucks or collet holders without an adapter. This is a single-ended tool from Cleveland Series 2635, configured for right hand cut operation.
Designed as a general purpose spotting drill for use in standard drill chucks and collet holders accepting a 1 inch straight cylindrical shank. Suitable for typical vertical machining center, drill press, and manual mill setups where a Series 2635 style spotting drill is specified.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with rotating tool safety. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before inserting or removing the tool from the chuck or collet holder. Verify that the shank is fully seated and the holding device is tightened to the tool holder manufacturer's specification before starting the spindle. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping or wear before each use and replace the tool if damage is found.
