The CLEVELAND C16993 is a cobalt jobber length drill bit sized at Letter E (0.2500 inches / 1/4 inches) with a 135-degree split point and a TiAlN (titanium aluminum nitride) coating. Built to M42 cobalt steel grade, this drill bit is rated for heavy-duty cutting in tough materials including cast iron and stainless steel. It features a parabolic flute design that improves chip evacuation and reduces heat buildup at depth. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 1/4 inches in diameter, and the overall length is 4 inches with a flute length of 2.75 inches. This bit is intended for use by machinists, maintenance trades, and fabrication professionals who drill frequently into hard or abrasive workpiece materials.
The C16993 is suited for production and maintenance drilling in industrial, commercial, and trade environments where hard-metal penetration is a regular requirement. The split point geometry allows the bit to start without center-punching and reduces walking on curved or irregular surfaces. Cast iron and stainless steel are the primary workpiece materials listed for this bit, making it a practical choice for HVAC fabrication, pipe work, and mechanical maintenance tasks that involve these materials. Right-hand cutting direction conforms to standard drill press and hand-drill operation.
Designed as a jobber-length drill bit conforming to ASME B94.11M and DIN 338 standards. Fits any standard drill chuck accepting a 1/4-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron and stainless steel as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or trained trade professional familiar with metal-cutting operations. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and confirm chuck jaw engagement on the full shank length. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel or other work-hardening alloys to extend bit life, noting this bit does not have a coolant-through channel. Replace the bit if point geometry shows visible wear to avoid workpiece damage or bit breakage.
