The CLEVELAND C16816 is a taper length cobalt drill bit designed for heavy-duty drilling in a wide range of metals and industrial materials. Built to the Series 2575 standard, this bit features a 6 mm (0.2362 inch) diameter with a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and cuts through work-hardened surfaces without a center punch. The M42 cobalt construction provides heat resistance and edge retention when drilling hard or abrasive materials at higher speeds. A parabolic flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation and reduces friction along the flute length of 3.74 inches. Overall length is 6.142 inches with a straight shank diameter of 6 mm.
This drill bit is suited for use in machine shops, fabrication facilities, and maintenance environments where operators are drilling aluminum, brass, carbon steel, cast iron, nickel alloy, plastic, stainless steel, and tool steel. The taper length configuration provides additional reach compared to a jobber-length bit, making it practical for deeper hole applications in production drilling setups. It is compatible with standard drill chucks and milling machine spindles that accept straight shank tooling. Right-hand cut direction is standard for conventional drilling operations.
Designed for use with standard straight-shank drill chucks on drill presses, CNC machining centers, and milling machines. Rated for drilling aluminum, brass, carbon steel, cast iron, nickel alloy, plastic, stainless steel, and tool steel per manufacturer material application data.
Installation and operation should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling professionals familiar with proper speeds and feeds for cobalt tooling. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before cutting. Always wear appropriate PPE including eye protection when operating drill equipment. Follow machine manufacturer guidelines and applicable OSHA standards for rotating tool safety.
