The CLEVELAND C16659 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for demanding metal drilling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this bit handles tough ferrous and non-ferrous materials with extended tool life. The 135-degree split point reduces walking and requires no center punch on most surfaces. Wire size 46 corresponds to a decimal diameter of 0.0810 inches. The parabolic flute geometry improves chip evacuation and reduces heat buildup during deep-hole drilling. A straight-cylindrical shank provides secure chuck engagement across standard 3-jaw and keyless chucks.
This drill bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling in metal fabrication, general machining, HVAC sheet metal work, and plumbing rough-in applications. The heavy-duty M42 cobalt grade makes it a practical choice when drilling stainless steel, cast iron, or hardened alloys where standard HSS bits wear prematurely. The parabolic flute profile supports intermittent and continuous drilling at moderate feed rates. Sold individually, it fits directly into standard drill presses, hand drills, and CNC machining centers with appropriate collets or drill chucks.
Designed as a standard jobber-length drill bit compatible with any 3-jaw, keyless, or collet-style chuck accepting a 0.0810-inch straight-cylindrical shank, including bench drill presses, portable hand drills, and CNC drilling centers.
Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify runout is within acceptable limits for the application. Ensure the workpiece is clamped or fixtured to prevent movement during drilling. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling hardened or stainless alloys to manage heat and extend bit life. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace bits showing chipping or excessive wear to maintain hole tolerance.
