The CLEVELAND C16612 is a heavy-duty cobalt jobber-length drill bit designed for demanding metal-cutting applications. Manufactured from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this bit carries a titanium nitride (TiN) coating that improves surface hardness and extends cutting life in tough materials. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on entry and requires less feed force, making it well suited for production drilling in hard alloys, stainless steel, and hardened steels. A parabolic flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation over the full 2.625-inch flute length, reducing heat buildup during deep-hole operations. The overall length is 3.875 inches with a straight-cylindrical shank diameter of 0.2280 inches.
This drill bit is used in machine-shop, maintenance, and fabrication environments where standard high-speed steel bits wear prematurely. Wire size No. 1 corresponds to a decimal diameter of 0.2280 inches, placing it in the 0.2000 to 0.2500 inch size range. It is appropriate for use in drill presses, lathes, CNC machining centers, and hand-held portable drills with a compatible chuck. The right-hand cut orientation suits the majority of standard rotating-spindle equipment. Machinists, millwrights, maintenance technicians, and industrial tradespeople are the primary installers and users of this bit.
Designed as an OEM-style jobber-length drill bit for use with any standard drill press, CNC machining center, or portable drill chuck that accepts a 0.2280-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Conforms to ASME B94.11M and DIN 338 dimensional standards for broad machine compatibility.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or tradespeople familiar with metal-cutting tooling and rotating-spindle equipment. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify that spindle speed is appropriate for the workpiece material and bit diameter. Do not exceed the rated cutting parameters for the workpiece material, and allow adequate chip clearance during deep-hole drilling. Always wear appropriate eye protection and follow applicable workplace safety standards when operating rotary cutting tools.
