The CLEVELAND C16563 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding materials. Built to M42 cobalt steel grade, it carries a 135-degree split point that self-centers on contact and reduces the need for a center punch. The parabolic flute geometry improves chip evacuation and allows faster feed rates compared to standard flute profiles. A gold oxide coating provides lubricity and heat resistance during extended cuts. The bit measures 3.5 inches overall length with a 3/16-inch straight-cylindrical shank, making it compatible with standard three-jaw drill chucks. Licensed tradespeople and machinists rely on this bit for production and maintenance drilling where tool life matters.
This bit is rated for use in cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and carbon and alloy steels. The heavy-duty grade designation and M42 cobalt composition make it well suited for stainless and hard alloys that wear out standard high-speed steel bits quickly. Typical applications include fabrication shops, maintenance and repair operations, HVAC sheet metal work involving stainless flanges, and plumbing rough-in through steel framing. The 3/16-inch diameter is a common size for pilot holes, sheet metal, and anchor bolt clearance applications across multiple trades.
Designed as an OEM-style jobber-length drill bit for use with standard three-jaw drill chucks accepting a 3/16-inch straight shank. Conforms to ASME B94.11M and DIN 338 standards for jobber-length drills.
This bit is installed and operated by machinists, fabricators, and trade professionals using a handheld drill, drill press, or CNC drilling machine. Secure the workpiece before drilling and ensure the chuck is tightened fully on the shank before operation. When drilling stainless steel or cast iron, use an appropriate cutting fluid to extend bit life and improve hole finish. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit when the split point or flute edges show visible degradation.
