The CLEVELAND C16553 is a jobber-length drill bit in wire gauge size 51, measuring 0.0670 inches in diameter, designed for heavy-duty drilling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a gold oxide coating, it delivers strong heat and wear resistance under sustained cutting loads. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on initial contact and lowers required thrust force. A parabolic flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation, making it well-suited for deep-hole drilling in tough workpiece materials. The straight-cylindrical shank seats directly in standard three-jaw chucks without an adapter.
This bit is intended for professional metalworking and fabrication trades where tight tolerances and reliable performance in hard or abrasive materials are required. Primary workpiece materials include cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and carbon steel. With a 1-inch flute length and a 2-inch overall length, it fits close-quarters drilling situations common in production and maintenance environments. It runs right-hand cut and requires no coolant-through capability from the spindle.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks accepting a 0.0670-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Suitable for benchtop drill presses, CNC machining centers, and handheld power drills where the chuck capacity covers the shank diameter. Meets ASME B94.11M and DIN 338 standards.
Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before starting the cut. Match spindle speed to the workpiece material and bit diameter — cobalt bits tolerate higher speeds than standard HSS but still require appropriate feeds to avoid tip overheating. When drilling stainless steel or hardened alloys, use a cutting fluid to extend tool life. Inspect the split point for chipping between uses; a damaged tip reduces hole accuracy and increases the risk of bit breakage.
