The CLEVELAND C16526 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit in No. 24 wire size (0.1520 inches diameter), built for drilling ferrous metals and tough alloys where standard high-speed steel bits wear prematurely. It carries an M42 cobalt material grade, a 135-degree split-point tip for fast penetration without a center punch, and a parabolic flute geometry that clears chips efficiently in deep holes. Overall length is 3.125 inches with a 2.0-inch flute length. The straw oxide coating reduces heat buildup at the cutting edge. This bit is used primarily by machinists, maintenance technicians, and metal fabricators who need consistent, repeatable results on production or service work.
The C16526 is suited for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and other hard workpiece materials where heat generation is a concern. Its straight cylindrical shank fits standard three-jaw chucks on drill presses, CNC machining centers, hand drills, and right-angle drill attachments without modification. The parabolic flute design performs well in interrupted cuts and in materials that tend to work-harden, such as 304 and 316 stainless. The web-thinned, tapered web reduces thrust requirements and keeps the bit on center at entry. Series 2075 is a heavy-duty production line within the Cleveland catalog.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct substitute for No. 24 wire-size jobber drill bits conforming to ASME B94.11M and DIN 338 standards. Fits any drill press, machining center, or hand drill chuck sized to accept a 0.1520-inch straight shank.
A licensed machinist or qualified maintenance technician should secure the shank fully in the chuck before applying power. Confirm spindle speed is appropriate for the workpiece material and bit diameter before drilling. Do not exceed the rated duty cycle of the machine or force-feed the bit through hard material, as cobalt bits are brittle under side-loading. Follow applicable shop safety codes and wear appropriate eye protection during all drilling operations.
