Product Description

The CLEVELAND C15947 is a cobalt jobber length drill bit designed for demanding metal drilling applications. Built from M42 high-cobalt steel and finished with an oxide coating, this bit delivers heat resistance and edge retention when cutting through superalloys, stainless steel, and other hard materials. It features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and lowers the thrust needed to start a hole without a center punch. The fast spiral flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation. Overall length is 3.75 inches with a 1.25-inch flute length and a straight cylindrical shank diameter of 0.2090 inches. This is a heavy-duty, right-hand-cut bit manufactured to ASME B94.11M standards.

The C15947 is sized to wire gauge number 4, corresponding to 0.2090 inches in decimal. It is suited for production and maintenance drilling in aerospace, industrial, and mechanical trade environments where workpiece materials include superalloys and high-tensile metals. The tapered web and web-thinned geometry make it appropriate for applications where bit rigidity and hole accuracy are critical. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and industrial maintenance mechanics are the primary users of this series.

Key Features

  • M42 cobalt steel construction for superior heat and wear resistance in hard-metal drilling
  • 135-degree split point reduces walking and lowers required thrust at hole entry
  • Oxide coating provides lubricity and surface protection during high-speed cutting
  • Fast spiral flute promotes rapid chip evacuation and reduces heat buildup
  • Web-thinned, tapered web design improves cutting efficiency and reduces torque
  • Straight cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without adapters
  • Conforms to ASME B94.11M and NAS specification designations

Compatibility

Designed for use in standard 3-jaw drill chucks and compatible drilling equipment accepting a 0.2090-inch straight cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece material compatibility is superalloys; the cobalt M42 grade also performs in stainless steel and other hard ferrous materials. Part of the Cleveland Series 3780 heavy-duty cobalt drill line.

Installation Notes

Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by qualified machinists or tradespeople familiar with metal cutting operations. Secure the shank fully in the drill chuck and verify concentricity before starting. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant to extend tool life when drilling superalloys, even though coolant-through is not supported by this bit design. Always wear eye protection and follow applicable shop safety procedures when operating drilling equipment.
