Product Description

The CLEVELAND C15934 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for demanding metal-cutting applications where standard high-speed steel falls short. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with an oxide coating, this bit delivers the heat resistance and edge retention needed when drilling superalloys, stainless steel, and other hard materials. The 135-degree split point reduces walking and cutting pressure at the start of each hole, eliminating the need for a center punch on most surfaces. At 0.1800 inches in diameter (wire size No. 15) and 3-3/8 inches overall length, it fits standard drill chucks and is sold as a single unit.

This drill bit is suited for tool and die shops, aerospace maintenance, HVAC fabrication, and general metal work where superalloy or hard-metal drilling is routine. The fast spiral flute design promotes chip evacuation in deep holes, and the tapered web with web thinning reduces thrust load on the drill press or hand drill. It is equally at home in a drill press, milling machine, or heavy-duty handheld drill motor. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in keyed or keyless chucks up to the matching 0.1800-inch shank diameter.

Key Features

  • M42 cobalt HSS construction for superior heat resistance and edge retention in hard and abrasive materials
  • 135-degree split point starts on contact without center punching and reduces axial cutting force
  • Oxide coating improves lubricity and surface hardness for extended tool life
  • Fast spiral flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation in deep-hole drilling
  • Web-thinned tapered web lowers thrust requirements and minimizes heat buildup
  • Meets ASME B94.11M standards and carries NAS specification designation for quality-controlled applications

Compatibility

Designed as a Series 3780 jobber-length drill bit for use in standard keyed or keyless chucks accepting a 0.1800-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece material rating is superalloy; also suitable for stainless steel, tool steel, and other hard ferrous metals where cobalt-grade tooling is specified.

Installation Notes

A licensed machinist or qualified tradesperson should select the appropriate feed rate and spindle speed for the workpiece material before drilling; cobalt bits tolerate higher speeds than standard HSS but still require cutting fluid or coolant when drilling superalloys and stainless steel to prevent work hardening. Secure the workpiece firmly before engaging the drill to avoid bit deflection or breakage. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace or resharpen when wear is visible. Note that this bit is not configured for coolant-through delivery.
