The CLEVELAND C15114 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for precision hole-making in demanding materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a coated finish, this bit handles alloy steels, aluminum, and other tough workpiece materials that would quickly wear out standard HSS tooling. It features a 135-degree split point for fast penetration and reduced walking on entry. The parabolic flute geometry improves chip evacuation and reduces heat buildup during the cut. At 0.1520 inch diameter (No. 24 wire size) and a compact 2-1/16 inch overall length, it fits stub-length drilling applications where clearance is limited. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance mechanics are the typical users.
This bit is suited for production environments, machine shops, and maintenance-repair-operations (MRO) where accurate small-diameter holes are needed in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The screw machine length profile makes it a natural fit for drill presses, CNC machining centers, and turret-style setups where a shorter, stiffer tool reduces deflection and improves hole location accuracy. It is especially effective in aluminum and alloy steel applications where heat generation and chip packing are concerns.
Designed as a screw machine length replacement drill bit for applications requiring a No. 24 wire size (0.1520 inch) hole in alloy steel, aluminum, and similar materials. Compatible with any drill press, CNC machining center, or hand drill with a chuck capacity covering 0.1520 inch straight-cylindrical shanks.
Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in the chuck before operation and verify there is no runout. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material to maximize tool life, even though this bit does not support through-coolant delivery. Inspect the split point for chipping before reuse, particularly after drilling hardened alloys. Replacement and setup should be performed by a qualified machinist or technician familiar with cutting tool safety practices.
