The CLEVELAND C15083 is a screw machine length cobalt drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in tough materials. Built to ASME B94.11M standards, it features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and allows drilling without a center punch. The parabolic flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation, making this bit well suited for deep-hole and production drilling. At 0.5781 inches in diameter with a right-hand cut and straight-cylindrical shank, it fits standard drill chucks without adapters. Licensed tradespeople and machinists working in metal fabrication rely on this bit for consistent, accurate results across moderate to high-volume applications.
This bit is built for drilling alloy steel, aluminum, and similar metals where heat resistance and edge retention are critical. The screw machine length body, shorter than a jobber-length bit, provides added rigidity and reduced deflection in drill press, CNC, or manual machine setups. The M42 cobalt material grade handles elevated cutting temperatures that would degrade standard HSS tooling. A web-thinned, parallel-web configuration reduces thrust and improves centering. This makes it a practical choice for production shops, maintenance crews, and fabrication environments where tool life and hole quality matter.
Designed for use in drilling alloy steel and aluminum as stated in product specifications. The straight-cylindrical shank at 0.5781 inches is compatible with standard drill chucks and collet holders sized for the corresponding shank diameter. Part of the Cleveland Series 2175A screw machine length cobalt drill line.
Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by qualified machinists or tradespeople familiar with rotating cutting tools. Secure the workpiece and ensure the drill chuck is properly tightened before operation. Cutting fluid or coolant is recommended when drilling alloy steel to extend tool life, though this bit does not support coolant-through delivery. Inspect the cutting edges for wear before each use and replace when edge integrity is compromised to avoid poor hole quality or tool breakage.
