The CLEVELAND C14702 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for fast, accurate drilling in alloy steels, aluminum, and other demanding workpiece materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers superior heat resistance during high-speed or interrupted-cut operations. The 135-degree split point geometry reduces walking on entry and requires no center punch on most surfaces. At 3.125 inches overall length with a 1.8125-inch flute length, this stub-length bit provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length equivalents, making it well suited for close-tolerance production drilling on CNC machines, drill presses, and manual lathes.
The C14702 fits standard drilling applications across metalworking trades, toolrooms, and maintenance operations. Its straight cylindrical shank diameter of 0.3750 inches seats directly in drill chucks and collet holders without adapters. The screw machine length format is the preferred choice when drill press quill depth is limited or when workpiece fixturing demands a shorter tool overhang. Primary workpiece materials listed include alloy steels and aluminum. The 2-flute regular spiral configuration provides efficient chip evacuation in through-hole and blind-hole applications.
Designed for use in standard 3/8-inch drill chucks, collet holders, and keyless chucks on drill presses, CNC machining centers, and manual mills or lathes. Suitable for drilling alloy steels and aluminum per Series 2133 application guidelines.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician familiar with cutting tool safety. Ensure the drill chuck or collet is fully tightened and the workpiece is securely fixtured before beginning operation. Power down and de-energize the spindle before changing tooling. Do not exceed the recommended speeds and feeds for the workpiece material and bit diameter.
