The CLEVELAND C14671 is a cobalt screw machine length drill bit sized to Letter N (0.3020 inches) with a 135-degree split point geometry. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it is designed for heavy-duty drilling in tough materials where standard HSS bits lose edge retention. The shortened screw machine length body reduces deflection in close-quarters setups and improves rigidity on drill presses, CNC machining centers, and production floor equipment. The web-thinned split point starts on contact without a center punch, reducing thrust and improving hole accuracy. Two spiral flutes with a regular helix clear chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole operations.
This bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling in alloy steel, aluminum, and similar materials where heat buildup and work hardening are concerns. The screw machine length format is standard in toolroom, production machining, and MRO environments where a jobber-length bit would introduce unwanted flex or overhang. It fits any drill press, milling machine, or hand drill accepting a straight cylindrical shank. The coated finish adds surface hardness and lubricity to extend tool life in repetitive cutting cycles.
Designed as a screw machine length replacement or production-use drill bit for applications requiring a Letter N (0.3020-inch) diameter hole in alloy steel, aluminum, and similar workpiece materials. Fits any standard straight-shank drill chuck accepting a 0.3020-inch shank.
Installation is performed by machinists, toolroom technicians, or maintenance professionals using a compatible drill press, machining center, or hand drill with a keyed or keyless chuck. Secure the straight cylindrical shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify runout before beginning production cuts. Always power down and lock out the machine before changing bits. Follow applicable OSHA machine guarding requirements and the manufacturer speed-and-feed recommendations for the specific workpiece material and bit diameter.
