The CLEVELAND C14665 is a cobalt screw machine length drill bit sized to Letter L (0.290 inches) with a 135-degree split point and web-thinned geometry. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers heat and wear resistance needed when drilling alloy steels, aluminum, and other demanding workpiece materials. The 2-flute spiral flute design with parallel web configuration promotes chip evacuation during short-hole drilling operations. At 2.75 inches overall length with a 1.1875-inch straight cylindrical shank, it fits standard drill chucks and is well suited for production and maintenance machining work.
This bit is designed for screw machine length applications where a shorter, stiffer drill is preferred over jobber length to reduce deflection and improve hole accuracy. Typical use cases include production drilling in machine shops, maintenance and repair operations, and fabrication environments working with alloy steels and aluminum. Right-hand cut with a straight-cylindrical shank makes it compatible with conventional drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held drilling equipment. The heavy-duty grade designation and M42 cobalt material suit repetitive high-feed applications where standard HSS bits wear prematurely.
Designed for drilling alloy steel and aluminum workpieces; compatible with any drill press, machining center, or handheld drill accepting a 0.290-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Conforms to ASME B94.11M and DIN 1897 specifications.
This bit is installed and serviced by machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance mechanics using standard drill chuck equipment. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify runout is within acceptable limits for the application. Do not exceed the recommended feed and speed parameters for the workpiece material to avoid premature tip wear or breakage. Inspect the cutting edges before each use; resharpen or replace when the split point shows signs of wear or chipping.
