The CLEVELAND C14582 is a screw machine length drill bit sized at No. 27 (0.1440 inches) and manufactured from M42 cobalt high-speed steel. Screw machine length bits are shorter than jobber-length drills, which improves rigidity and reduces deflection in production drilling and CNC applications. The 135-degree split point geometry reduces thrust, eliminates the need for a center punch, and promotes self-centering on contact. The two-flute spiral design with web thinning improves chip evacuation and reduces cutting torque. This bit is suited for machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and production drilling setups where hole accuracy and tool life are priorities.
The C14582 is designed for drilling alloy steels, aluminum, and other demanding workpiece materials where standard high-speed steel bits wear prematurely. The screw machine length format makes it well-suited for drill press work, turret lathes, screw machines, and CNC drilling fixtures where a short, stiff tool is preferred over a standard jobber-length bit. Its straight cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks and collet holders without modification. ASME B94.11M and DIN 1897 standards govern its dimensional tolerances, making it interchangeable in tooling setups that specify those standards.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or production drill bit for any setup requiring a No. 27 wire gauge, 0.1440-inch diameter screw machine length drill in a straight cylindrical shank. Compatible with standard drill chucks and collet systems accepting a 0.1440-inch shank diameter.
Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Secure the shank fully in the drill chuck or collet before operation and verify runout is within acceptable limits for the application. Always power down and lock out the machine before changing tooling. Follow applicable shop safety standards and workpiece clamping requirements for the material being drilled.
