The CLEVELAND C14557 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-productivity drilling in demanding metalworking applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it is rated for heavy-duty service and delivers strong heat resistance when cutting alloy steels, aluminum, and other tough materials. The bit measures 0.1015 inches in diameter (wire size 38) with an overall length of 1.8125 inches, making it suited for tight-clearance drilling in machines with limited spindle travel. The 135-degree split point reduces walking and cuts with less thrust than a standard 118-degree point. Right-hand cut with a straight cylindrical shank. Installed by machinists and tool-room technicians on drill presses, CNC machining centers, and screw machines.
This bit is used in production and job-shop environments where shorter flute length and rigid shank geometry improve hole accuracy in close-tolerance work. The screw machine length format reduces deflection compared to jobber-length bits, which is a direct advantage when drilling small-diameter holes in harder alloy grades. Typical applications include component drilling in alloy steel and aluminum stock. The two-flute spiral design evacuates chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole operations.
Designed as a standard screw machine length drill bit for use in drill presses, CNC machining centers, screw machines, and hand-held drill equipment accepting a 0.1015-inch straight cylindrical shank. Suitable for primary workpiece materials including alloy steel and aluminum per Series 2133 specifications.
Installation is performed by machinists or tool-room technicians. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before operation. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is de-energized before changing or inspecting bits. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material to extend tool life, noting this bit does not support coolant-through delivery.
