Product Description

The CLEVELAND C14508 is a cobalt screw machine length drill bit sized at No. 56 (0.0465 inches) with a 135-degree split point and web-thinned geometry. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers higher heat resistance and edge retention than standard HSS tooling. The short overall length of 1-3/8 inches reduces deflection and improves rigidity in tight-clearance drilling operations. It is designed for right-hand cutting with a straight cylindrical shank and two spiral flutes. Machinists, tool and die workers, and maintenance technicians use this bit for small-diameter hole production in production drilling applications.

This bit is suited for drilling alloy steels and aluminum in screw machine, CNC, and benchtop drill press operations. The short screw machine length provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, making it well-suited for cross-drilling, tapping prep, and precision work where hole location accuracy and minimal walkout are priorities. The split point geometry starts on contact without a center punch on most materials, reducing setup steps in high-volume operations.

Key Features

  • M42 cobalt HSS construction for elevated heat resistance in tough alloy and aluminum drilling
  • 135-degree split point with web thinning for self-starting entry and reduced thrust force
  • Screw machine (stub) length at 1-3/8 inches overall for maximum rigidity and reduced deflection
  • Right-hand cut with straight cylindrical shank for standard chuck compatibility
  • Diameter tolerance held to +0.0000 to -0.0005 inches for precise hole sizing
  • Conforms to ASME B94.11M and DIN 1897 specifications

Compatibility

Designed as an OEM-compatible replacement or standard production drill bit for use in any straight-shank drill chuck accepting a 0.0465-inch diameter bit; primary workpiece materials listed as alloy steel and aluminum.

Installation Notes

Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by a qualified machinist or trained tradesperson familiar with drill press or machine tool operation. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before drilling. Ensure the workpiece is clamped or fixtured to prevent movement during the cut. Use appropriate cutting fluid for alloy steel applications to extend tool life and maintain hole quality.
