Product Description

The CLEVELAND C14263 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-production drilling in tight-clearance applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with an oxide straw coating, this bit handles demanding materials without sacrificing edge life. The 135-degree split point starts on contact without a center punch and reduces thrust. The parabolic flute geometry improves chip evacuation and helps prevent clogging in deep-hole work. At 2-1/16 inches overall length with a 1-inch flute, it fits standard screw machine setups and short-reach applications where a jobber-length bit would overhang. Diameter is 0.1540 inches with a tolerance of +0.0000 to -0.0007 inches.

This bit is rated for use on a wide range of workpiece materials including aluminum, brass, carbon steel, cast iron, nickel alloy, plastics, stainless steel, and tool steel. The heavy-duty M42 cobalt grade makes it especially suited for interrupted cuts and abrasive alloys that would quickly degrade standard HSS tooling. It fits screw machines, CNC lathes, drill presses, and hand-held power tools where a straight-cylindrical shank is accepted. The Series 2175 designation identifies it within the CLEVELAND catalog for reorder and toolcrib tracking. Packaged as a single unit.

Key Features

  • M42 cobalt steel construction for extended tool life in abrasive and hard materials
  • 135-degree split point reduces walking and lowers required thrust force
  • Parabolic flute with web thinning promotes fast chip evacuation and reduces heat buildup
  • Oxide straw coating provides mild lubricity and corrosion resistance during storage and use
  • Screw machine length body keeps the tool rigid in short-reach and high-production setups
  • Diameter tolerance of +0.0000 to -0.0007 inches for consistent hole sizing

Compatibility

Designed as a direct-fit replacement or standard tooling selection for any screw machine, CNC lathe turret, or drill press that accepts a 0.1540-inch straight-cylindrical shank bit; compatible with workpiece materials including aluminum, brass, carbon steel, cast iron, nickel alloy, plastics, stainless steel, and tool steel.

Installation Notes

Install and remove drill bits only with the machine at a full stop and power locked out. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank in a properly sized chuck or collet to the full depth of the shank to prevent runout. Inspect the cutting edges and web thinning before each use; a chipped or dull split point increases thrust and can cause workpiece damage. Follow applicable ANSI safety standards for rotating tool operation and personal protective equipment.
