The CLEVELAND C14254 is a screw machine length drill bit engineered for demanding metalworking applications in shop and field environments. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers heat and wear resistance that standard HSS bits cannot match. The bit measures 0.1820 inches in diameter (wire size 14) with a 2-3/16 inch overall length and a 1-1/8 inch flute length. The 135-degree split point reduces walking and allows faster penetration with less feed pressure. A cobalt oxide straw coating provides additional corrosion resistance. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance technicians working with tough alloys will find this bit well-suited to high-cycle production use.
The C14254 is designed for use on drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held power drills in industrial and light manufacturing settings. Its compact screw machine length profile improves rigidity in short-reach applications where a jobber-length bit would flex or chatter. The parabolic flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation, making it effective on both interrupted and continuous cuts. Workpiece materials include aluminum, brass, carbon steel, cast iron, nickel alloy, plastics, stainless steel, and tool steel, making this a versatile choice for multi-material shops.
Designed as an OEM-style screw machine length drill bit compatible with standard three-jaw drill chucks and collet systems accepting a 0.1820-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Conforms to ANSI specifications for wire-size drill bits in the 0.1500 to 0.2000 inch diameter range.
Secure workpieces firmly before drilling to prevent movement and bit deflection. Set spindle speed appropriate to the workpiece material and bit diameter following standard machining speed-and-feed tables for cobalt tooling. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit; apply cutting fluid to the entry point manually when drilling ferrous or stainless materials to extend tool life. Inspect the cutting edge and split point for chipping or wear before each use.
