The CLEVELAND C14252 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-speed material removal in tight-clearance applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this bit handles the heat and abrasion that standard HSS bits cannot. The 135-degree split point reduces walking and requires less feed force at entry, making it well suited for production drilling. The parabolic flute geometry evacuates chips aggressively, reducing packing in deep holes. At 2.25 inches overall length with a 0.1890-inch diameter, this is a heavy-duty short-length bit intended for drill press, CNC, and hand-held power tool use by machinists and maintenance technicians.
This drill bit is sized at wire gauge No. 12 (0.1890 inches) and fits standard straight-shank drill chucks. The screw machine length profile — shorter than jobber length — reduces deflection and improves rigidity when drilling alloy steels, aluminum, and other materials that generate significant heat at the cutting edge. The straw oxide finish provides mild lubricity and corrosion resistance during storage and use. The Series 2175 designation places this in Cleveland's heavy-duty cobalt line, built to ASME B94.11M standards.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use screw machine drill bit for standard straight-shank drill chucks accepting 0.1890-inch shanks. Suitable for drilling alloy steel and aluminum as noted in the manufacturer specifications.
A licensed machinist or qualified maintenance technician should secure the bit fully in a keyed or keyless drill chuck before operation. Ensure the workpiece is clamped securely to prevent rotation. Use appropriate cutting fluid when drilling alloy steel to extend tool life and manage heat buildup. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use; a worn split point will increase thrust load and reduce hole accuracy.
