The CLEVELAND C12243 is a taper shank drill bit engineered for general-purpose drilling in metal, steel, and similar materials. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide finish, it accepts a 3MT (Morse taper) shank for secure seating in compatible drill presses, lathes, and machining centers. The bit measures 15/16 inch (0.9375 inch) in diameter with a 118-degree standard point angle and web-thinned geometry that reduces thrust and improves chip clearance at entry. With a flute length of 6.125 inches and an overall length of 10.75 inches, it handles moderate-depth through-hole and blind-hole applications. Cutting direction is right-hand with a regular spiral flute pattern. This bit is intended for installation and use by machinists and tool-and-die professionals.
The C12243 is suited for general-purpose production drilling where a Morse taper interface is required. Typical applications include drilling on floor-standing drill presses, manual lathes with tailstock chucks, and milling machines fitted with a 3MT adapter. It performs well in ferrous metals, aluminum, and plastics at moderate speeds and feeds. The oxide finish provides a baseline level of lubricity and corrosion resistance for shop environments. This bit conforms to ASME B94.11M standards, making it appropriate for toolrooms, maintenance shops, and production floor use.
Designed as an OEM-style general-purpose taper shank drill bit compatible with any machine spindle or tailstock chuck accepting a 3MT (No. 3 Morse Taper) interface.
Installation is performed by machinists or qualified tool operators. Before mounting, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and de-energized. Clean both the shank taper and the spindle socket to remove chips and oil before seating to ensure proper taper contact. Use a drift and mallet against the drift slot to remove the bit; never use impact force against the cutting end or flutes.
