The CLEVELAND C12209 is a taper shank drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal, steel, and similar materials. It features a No. 2 Morse taper (2MT) shank for secure mounting in compatible drill presses and machine spindles. The bit is manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS) with an oxide finish that provides corrosion resistance and reduces friction during cutting. At 21/32 inch (0.6563 inch) in diameter, it is suited for medium-bore hole applications requiring accurate, consistent results. This bit is installed and operated by machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance technicians working with drill presses, lathes, or milling machines equipped with a No. 2 Morse taper socket.
The C12209 is built for general-purpose production and maintenance drilling operations. Its 118-degree standard point and right-hand spiral flute geometry make it appropriate for a wide range of common ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The web-thinned construction reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation in deeper holes. Typical applications include fabrication shops, maintenance facilities, and machine shops where a reliable, standard-geometry taper shank drill is required in the 21/32 inch size range.
Designed as a standard-geometry replacement or production drill bit for machine spindles and drill press quills fitted with a No. 2 Morse taper socket. Suitable for use wherever a 21/32 inch taper shank drill conforming to ASME B94.11M is specified.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians with appropriate machine tool experience. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or removing the taper shank in the spindle socket. Clean both the shank taper and the socket bore before insertion to ensure full contact and prevent fretting. Use a drift key and drift slot to remove the bit safely — never strike the spindle directly.
