The CLEVELAND C11688 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for precision hole-making in metal, plastics, and light-duty materials. Built from high speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, this bit features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking on entry and requires less feed pressure than a conventional 118-degree tip. The No. 34 wire gauge size corresponds to a decimal diameter of 0.1110 inches. At 2.625 inches overall length with a 1.5-inch spiral flute, it fits standard drill chucks and is sized for right-hand rotation. The tapered web and web-thinned geometry reduce torque demand and extend tool life in production environments. Licensed HVAC, plumbing, and electrical tradespeople regularly use wire-gauge bits for sheet metal, junction boxes, and conduit work.
This bit is suited for drilling aluminum as its primary workpiece material, though the high speed steel construction handles a broad range of non-hardened metals and plastics. The straight-cylindrical shank accepts standard 3-jaw chucks and right-angle drill attachments. It is manufactured to NAS 907 Type B specification, making it appropriate for aerospace-adjacent and industrial maintenance applications where dimensional tolerance is critical. The diameter tolerance is held to -0.0005 to 0.0000 inches for consistent fit in close-tolerance holes. It is sold individually but must be ordered in multiples of 12.
Designed as an OEM-style jobber drill bit for use in standard 3-jaw chucks and right-angle drill drivers that accept a straight-cylindrical shank of 0.1110 inches. Primary workpiece material rating is aluminum per manufacturer specification.
Install in a properly rated drill press, hand drill, or right-angle driver before powering the tool. Secure the workpiece and confirm chuck tightness before drilling. Follow applicable workplace safety guidelines and use cutting fluid when drilling aluminum or stacked metal to extend bit life and improve hole finish. Inspect the cutting edges for wear before each use and replace bits that show chipping or deformation to maintain hole tolerance.
