The CLEVELAND C11655 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for precision drilling in metalworking and fabrication applications. Built from high speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, this heavy-duty bit carries a No. 1 wire gauge size, corresponding to a decimal diameter of 0.2280 inches. The 135-degree split point reduces walking and requires less feed pressure at the start of a cut. A tapered web with web-thinning further reduces thrust, making it a practical choice for production or maintenance drilling where clean entry and consistent hole quality matter. Licensed HVAC, plumbing, and electrical tradespeople frequently reach for this size when drilling pilot or fastener holes in aluminum components and sheet metal assemblies.
The C11655 fits standard jobber-length drilling tasks in light manufacturing, mechanical contracting, and HVAC fabrication shops. Its straight-cylindrical shank seats in any standard three-jaw drill chuck, keyless or keyed, without adapters. With a 2.625-inch flute length and an overall length of 3.875 inches, it clears chips efficiently across the full depth of a typical structural or sheet-metal pass. Primary workpiece material designation is aluminum, and it meets NAS 907 Type B specification, making it suitable for aerospace-adjacent MRO and precision mechanical work as well.
Designed as a standard jobber-length replacement or production bit for use in any drill press, hand drill, or mill with a chuck accepting a 0.2280-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece material designation is aluminum per manufacturer specification.
This bit is installed by a machinist, HVAC fabricator, or mechanical trade technician using a standard keyed or keyless drill chuck. Secure the shank fully into the chuck and verify concentricity before drilling. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling aluminum at higher feed rates to extend cutting edge life. Inspect the cutting edges and split point for wear before each use; a dull or chipped point increases thrust and reduces hole quality.
