The CLEVELAND C11417 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit sized to wire gauge 17 (0.1730 inches decimal), designed for drilling ferrous metals, stainless steel, and other hard or abrasive materials encountered in industrial and trade applications. It features a 135-degree split point that self-centers on contact, reducing the need for a center punch and minimizing walking on curved or hardened surfaces. The parabolic flute geometry promotes fast chip evacuation, while the TiAlN coating extends tool life under high heat and friction. Licensed machinists, pipefitters, and metalworkers are the typical end users of this bit.
This bit is suited for production drilling in metal fabrication shops, mechanical contracting, and maintenance environments where cobalt tooling is specified for difficult alloys. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard three-jaw chucks and drill presses without an adapter. The 3-3/8-inch overall length places it in the standard jobber range, making it a direct fit in most bench-mounted and handheld drilling setups. No coolant-through capability is required for typical job-site use, though flood or mist cooling can be applied externally to extend edge life in continuous-run operations.
Designed as an OEM-style jobber-length drill bit for use with standard three-jaw drill chucks and presses accepting a 0.1730-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Conforms to ANSI specification designation and UNSPSC code 23241634.
Install this bit in a properly sized drill chuck and tighten securely before use. Power down and lock out the drill press or rotary tool before changing bits. Use appropriate cutting fluid or external mist cooling when drilling stainless or high-nickel alloys to preserve edge life. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping or wear before each use, as cobalt bits subjected to excessive feed pressure or lateral stress can fracture.
