The CLEVELAND C09676 is an extra length high-speed steel drill bit designed for deeper drilling and long-reach drilling applications. It features a 0.42-inch diameter with a standard 118-degree point angle and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration that reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation at entry. The oxide finish provides light corrosion resistance and reduces friction during cutting. At 8 inches overall length with a 5.5-inch spiral flute, this bit reaches into cavities and deep bores that standard-length drills cannot access. It is sized for use by machinists, maintenance technicians, pipefitters, and fabricators working in production or field environments.
This drill bit is suited for drilling cast iron and steel in applications requiring extended reach beyond what jobber-length bits can provide. Typical use cases include drilling through structural steel sections, pipe flanges, thick weldments, and deep cavities in cast iron components. The right-hand spiral flute and straight-cylindrical shank make it compatible with standard drill chucks and drill press spindles. The 27/64-inch shank diameter fits most 1/2-inch capacity chucks commonly used in industrial and trade settings. It is a general-purpose grade bit appropriate for intermittent production drilling and maintenance work.
Designed for use in standard 1/2-inch capacity drill chucks on drill presses, magnetic drills, and hand-held power drills. Primary workpiece materials are steel and cast iron. Secondary workpiece material is cast iron. Meets ASME B94.11M and ANSI specification designations.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or skilled tradesperson familiar with drill bit selection and cutting parameters for the workpiece material. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and ensure the bit is fully seated and tightened in the chuck before operation. Extra length bits are more susceptible to deflection than jobber-length bits — use a center punch or spot drill to establish the entry point and reduce walking. Do not exceed the recommended feed rate for the workpiece material, and allow adequate chip clearance by periodically retracting the bit during deep-hole drilling.
