The CLEVELAND C08837 is a taper length, high-speed steel (HSS) drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metalworking applications. Built to Series 2510 specifications, it features a 1/2 inch straight shank, a 118-degree standard point angle, and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration that reduces cutting resistance and improves chip evacuation. The spiral flute geometry promotes efficient material removal during right-hand cutting operations. At 7.75 inches overall length with a 4.75 inch flute length, this bit offers additional reach compared to jobber-length drills, making it well-suited for deep-hole applications where a standard-length bit falls short.
This drill bit is intended for use in ferrous and cast materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, and cast iron. It is commonly used by machinists, tool-and-die professionals, and maintenance technicians on drill presses, CNC machines, and hand-held power drills where deeper hole depth is required without stepping up to a full extra-length bit. The coated finish provides added surface hardness and helps extend cutting life in repetitive production environments.
Designed as a general-purpose taper length drill bit compatible with any drill press, machining center, or hand drill equipped with a 1/2 inch or larger capacity chuck. Suitable for drilling alloy steel, carbon steel, and cast iron as stated in the manufacturer specifications.
Install and remove drill bits only after the spindle has come to a complete stop and power has been isolated from the machine. Secure the straight shank firmly in a properly sized chuck and verify concentricity before beginning a cut. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend bit life and improve hole quality. Follow applicable OSHA machining safety standards and facility-specific tooling protocols when operating drilling equipment.
