The CLEVELAND C08779 is a taper length, high-speed steel drill bit sized at Letter O (0.3160 inches) with a 118-degree standard point angle. Designed for general-purpose drilling in metal fabrication and maintenance environments, this bit features a spiral flute with a web-thinned, tapered web configuration that reduces cutting resistance at the tip. The straight shank measures 0.3160 inches in diameter and seats securely in standard drill chucks. At 6.5 inches overall length with a 4.125-inch flute, it reaches deeper than jobber-length bits without sacrificing rigidity. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance mechanics are the primary users.
The C08779 is suited for drilling into alloy steel, carbon steel, and cast iron in both production and repair settings. Its taper length body gives it reach for deeper holes where a jobber-length bit would fall short. The right-hand spiral flute evacuates chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole operations. This bit is built to ASME B94.11M and DIN 340 standards, making it appropriate for shop environments with tight dimensional tolerances. It installs in any standard drill press, milling machine, or hand drill with a compatible chuck capacity.
Rated for use in alloy steel, carbon steel, and cast iron. Fits any drill press, milling machine, or portable drill with a chuck capacity at or above 0.3160 inches. Conforms to ASME B94.11M and DIN 340 dimensional standards.
Machinists and maintenance technicians should secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify runout is within acceptable limits for the application. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling steel to extend bit life, as this bit does not support coolant-through delivery. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace if chipping or wear is visible at the point. Follow shop safety protocols and applicable OSHA standards when operating drilling equipment.
