The CLEVELAND C08671 is a taper length twist drill bit designed for general-purpose hole-making in metal and industrial materials. Built from high-speed steel with a coated finish, this bit features a standard 118-degree point angle and a spiral flute with web-thinned geometry for improved chip evacuation and reduced thrust. The straight shank measures 0.1360 inch in diameter, matching the No. 29 wire gauge designation. With a 3-inch flute length and an overall length of 5.375 inches, this taper length format provides extra reach beyond standard jobber bits while maintaining rigidity. It is sized to produce a 0.1360-inch diameter hole and is intended for use in drill presses, lathes, or hand-held power drills by machinists, maintenance technicians, and metal fabricators.
This bit is suited for drilling alloy steel, carbon steel, and cast iron in residential maintenance, commercial fabrication, and light industrial environments. The taper length design makes it well-suited for applications requiring deeper penetration than a jobber-length bit allows, such as through-hole drilling in thicker stock or reaching into recessed areas. It conforms to ASME B94.11M and DIN 340 standards, making it appropriate for both domestic and metric-specification work environments. Typical users include machinists, pipefitters, and general maintenance trades working with ferrous metals.
Designed as a general-purpose taper length drill bit compatible with standard straight-shank drill chucks. Suitable for use in alloy steel, carbon steel, and cast iron applications per Cleveland Series 2510 specifications.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or trade professionals familiar with metal drilling operations. Secure the workpiece before drilling and ensure the chuck is properly tightened around the straight shank to prevent slippage. Always operate at the appropriate spindle speed for the material being drilled and use cutting fluid when drilling ferrous metals to extend bit life and reduce heat buildup. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the bit if chipping or excessive wear is observed.
