The CLEVELAND C08628 is a taper length, straight-shank drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metalworking applications. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a coated finish, this bit features a 118-degree standard point angle and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration that reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation at the start of the cut. The spiral flute runs 2.25 inches in length, with an overall length of 4.25 inches, giving it extra reach compared to a jobber-length bit of the same diameter. Right-hand cutting direction. Wire gauge size 47, equal to 0.0785 inches in diameter. Suitable for licensed machinists, tool and die professionals, and experienced fabricators working on production or maintenance drilling tasks.
The C08628 is intended for drilling alloy steel, carbon steel, and cast iron. The taper length body provides added reach for deeper hole applications where a standard jobber bit falls short without requiring the full extension of a long-series bit. The straight shank seats directly into standard drill chucks without adapters. This bit ships individually and is sold in minimum order quantities of 10 units, making it appropriate for shop-level stocking. It conforms to ASME B94.11M and DIN 340 dimensional standards, ensuring dimensional consistency across production tooling setups.
Designed for use in alloy steel, carbon steel, and cast iron drilling applications. Fits any standard drill chuck accepting a straight shank of 0.0785 inches diameter. Suitable for general-purpose production and maintenance drilling in machine shop environments.
Installation and use of this bit should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling professionals familiar with drill press, CNC, or hand-drill operation at appropriate speeds for the workpiece material. Secure the straight shank firmly in the chuck before operation and verify runout before beginning production drilling. Always power down and de-energize the machine before changing bits. Do not exceed the recommended surface footage for HSS tooling in the target material to avoid premature wear or bit failure.
