The CLEVELAND C08623 is a taper length drill bit designed for precision drilling in ferrous metals and general-purpose machining applications. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide coating, this bit handles the heat and friction demands of production drilling without rapid edge breakdown. The wire gauge size is 49, which corresponds to a decimal diameter of 0.073 inches. The 118-degree standard point angle provides reliable centering and clean entry on flat and curved surfaces. A tapered web configuration with web thinning reduces thrust force at the point, making it a practical choice for machinists and maintenance technicians who need consistent results across multiple holes.
This drill bit fits into standard drilling operations on alloy steel, carbon steel, and cast iron workpieces. The taper length body gives it more reach than a jobber-length bit, making it useful when drilling deeper holes or when access requires additional clearance between the chuck and the workpiece surface. The spiral flute and right-hand cut configuration are compatible with conventional drill press, CNC, and hand-drill setups running standard clockwise spindle rotation. It is sold individually but requires a minimum order of 10 units per purchase.
Designed for use on alloy steel, carbon steel, and cast iron workpieces. Compatible with standard drill press chucks, CNC drilling equipment, and hand drills accepting straight-shank bits sized for 0.073-inch diameter tooling.
This bit is installed and operated by machinists, maintenance technicians, and fabricators using standard drill press or CNC equipment. Secure the straight shank firmly in a drill chuck before operation and verify spindle direction is set to right-hand rotation. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the material being drilled when extended run times are expected. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace bits showing chipping, discoloration from heat, or diameter wear beyond the stated tolerance of +0.0000 to -0.0005 inches.
