The CLEVELAND C04665 is a screw machine length (stub length) drill bit designed for high-throughput drilling in metal fabrication, machining, and maintenance applications. Built from high-speed steel with a bright/uncoated finish, it features a 31/32 inch diameter (0.9688 inches decimal), a standard 118-degree split point, and a web-thinned tip that reduces thrust and improves centering on entry. At 5-7/8 inches overall length with a 3-7/8 inch flute length, this short-series bit is suited for drill presses, CNC turret lathes, and screw machines where reduced overhang and rigidity matter. It carries a right-hand cut with a straight-cylindrical shank and is manufactured to ASME B94.11M standards.
This bit is appropriate for general-purpose drilling in alloy steel, aluminum, and similar workpiece materials. The stub-length design limits deflection in production environments where repeated, precise holes are required. Machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance mechanics working on structural components, fixtures, and machine parts will find this format useful where a jobber-length bit would introduce unwanted flex. The Series 2120 designation places it within a general-purpose HSS family built for everyday shop use.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use screw machine length drill bit for drill presses, CNC turret machines, and screw machines accepting a straight-cylindrical shank at 31/32 inch diameter. Primary workpiece materials listed by manufacturer include alloy steel and aluminum.
Install and remove drill bits only with the machine fully powered down and the spindle at a complete stop. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in a properly sized drill chuck to the manufacturer-recommended chuck capacity before operation. No coolant-through capability is present on this bit, so external cutting fluid should be applied when drilling harder alloy materials to extend tool life. Inspect the cutting edges and web for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit if the point geometry is compromised.
