The CLEVELAND C04636 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metalworking and fabrication applications. Built from high-speed steel with a bright/uncoated finish, this bit measures 23/32 inches (0.7188 inches) in diameter with a 4.75 inches overall length. The 118-degree split point geometry and web-thinned tip reduce walking and improve penetration on entry. Two spiral flutes with a regular helix evacuate chips efficiently during drilling. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks without slipping. Licensed machinists, tool and die techs, and shop floor mechanics use this bit for production drilling where a compact stub-length tool is preferred over a jobber-length bit.
This bit is suited for drilling alloy steel, aluminum, and similar materials in short-reach or confined setups where a standard jobber bit would be too long. The screw machine (stub) length provides greater rigidity, reducing deflection and improving hole straightness in repetitive or high-volume production drilling. It fits manual drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held power drills that accept a straight-cylindrical shank. General-purpose grade makes it a practical choice for job shops, maintenance crews, and light manufacturing environments.
Designed as a general-purpose screw machine length drill bit for use in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and power drills equipped with straight-cylindrical shank chucks accepting a 23/32-inch diameter bit.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or trade professionals familiar with rotary cutting tools and applicable shop safety standards. Secure the shank firmly in the chuck and verify concentricity before drilling. Always power down and de-energize the machine before changing or seating the bit. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant for the workpiece material to extend tool life and maintain hole quality.
