The CLEVELAND C04476 is a screw machine length (stub length) drill bit sized at wire gauge number 9, equivalent to 0.1960 inches in diameter. Manufactured from high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, it features a 118-degree standard point angle and a two-flute spiral design with web thinning for improved chip evacuation and reduced thrust at entry. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 0.1960 inches in diameter and the overall length is 2.25 inches. This bit is a general-purpose tool suited for production drilling, CNC setups, and benchtop drill press work in metalworking environments. It conforms to ASME B94.11M standards.
This drill bit is rated for use in alloy steel and aluminum as primary workpiece materials, making it appropriate for light to medium-duty metal fabrication, machine shops, and maintenance applications. The stub length format reduces deflection compared to jobber-length bits, which is an advantage when drilling short, precise holes in fixtures, jigs, or tight-access areas. It is packaged individually and sold in minimum order quantities of 10 units, making it practical for shop stock replenishment or kitting for production runs.
Designed as a general-purpose screw machine length drill bit for use in hand drills, benchtop drill presses, turret lathes, and CNC drilling operations on alloy steel and aluminum workpieces. Fits any standard chuck accepting a 0.1960-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or tool operator familiar with drilling parameters for the target workpiece material. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and set spindle speed appropriate for the material and bit diameter. Do not apply excessive lateral force, as stub-length bits are optimized for axial thrust. Inspect the cutting edges for wear before each use and replace when the bit shows signs of dulling or chipping to maintain hole tolerance.
