The CLEVELAND C01040 is a wire gauge size 67 jobber-length drill bit machined from high speed steel with an oxide finish. It carries a 118-degree standard point angle and features a two-flute spiral configuration with web thinning for improved chip evacuation at the tip. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 0.0320 inches in diameter and the overall length is 1-3/8 inches, making this bit well suited for precision drilling in tight-clearance applications. General-purpose grade, it is designed for production or maintenance use by machinists, toolroom technicians, and metalworking trades.
This bit is intended for drilling cast iron and steel in general-purpose metalworking applications. The 0.0320-inch diameter places it in the small-wire-gauge range, making it appropriate for tapping pilot holes, instrument work, and fine-detail metalwork where close diameter tolerance (-0.0005 to 0.0000 inches) is required. The oxide coating provides a degree of lubricity and corrosion resistance during dry or minimally lubricated cutting operations. It is manufactured to ASME B94.11M and DIN 338 standards.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement or stock drill bit for use in standard keyed or keyless drill chucks accepting a 0.0320-inch straight shank. Suitable for benchtop drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand drills used in metalworking applications on cast iron and steel workpieces.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a standard drill chuck. Ensure the machine spindle is fully de-energized and the chuck key or locking collar is secured before inserting or removing the bit. For small-diameter wire-gauge bits, use a drill press with a properly adjusted depth stop to reduce the risk of bit deflection or breakage. Work-holding fixtures are recommended to prevent workpiece movement during drilling.
