The CLE-LINE C66017 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in tough ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built to Series 1501-TT specs, it features a 5/16-inch diameter with a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and lowers thrust force on entry. A titanium nitride (TiN) coating extends surface hardness and wear resistance for longer service life between sharpenings. The straight cylindrical shank measures 0.3125 inches in diameter, and the overall length is 4.5 inches. Two spiral flutes evacuate chips efficiently, keeping the cut clear during continuous drilling operations. This bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling where cobalt alloy construction provides an edge over standard high-speed steel.
The C66017 is intended for drilling alloy steel, carbon steel, cast iron, aluminum, and other non-ferrous metals. Its right-hand cutting direction and web-thinned, tapered web configuration make it effective in drill press, CNC, or hand-drill applications across light manufacturing, maintenance, and fabrication environments. The 3-3/16-inch flute length accommodates typical jobber-depth holes without extension. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, and general maintenance technicians are the primary users of this bit.
Designed as an OEM-style general-purpose jobber drill bit suitable for use in standard drill press, CNC, and hand-held drilling applications requiring a 5/16-inch diameter cobalt bit with a straight shank.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with cutting tool safety. Secure the straight shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify that the workpiece is clamped to prevent movement. No coolant-through capability is present on this bit, so external coolant or cutting fluid should be applied manually when drilling hard alloys or at high feed rates. Follow applicable shop safety practices and ANSI standards for drill press and hand-drill operation.
