The CLE-LINE C62079 is a straight-flute bottoming tap designed to cut full threads to the bottom of blind holes in a 5/8-11 UNC thread profile. Built from high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, it delivers clean thread formation in cast iron, non-ferrous aluminum, and steel. The 4-flute straight-flute geometry provides stable chip control in through-hole and shallow blind-hole applications. With an H3 thread limit and a 3B class of fit, this tap meets standard tolerance requirements for general mechanical assembly. Shank diameter is 0.480 inches, and the overall length is 3-13/16 inches, making it compatible with standard tap handles and machine collets used in production and maintenance environments.
This tap is suited for machinists, maintenance technicians, and tool-and-die professionals threading blind holes in ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces. Its bottoming chamfer - typically 1 to 2 thread lead - allows threads to be cut closer to the bottom of a blind hole than a plug or taper tap permits. Typical applications include tapping drilled holes in structural steel, aluminum castings, and cast iron components where a full thread depth is required. The Series 0403 designation places it in CLE-LINE's standard straight-flute tap family for general-purpose threading operations.
Designed for use in cast iron, non-ferrous aluminum, and steel workpieces requiring a 5/8-11 UNC right-hand thread. Fits standard tap handles and machine setups accepting a 0.480-inch shank diameter.
This tap is installed by machinists using a tap handle, T-handle wrench, or CNC tapping attachment. Always use cutting fluid appropriate to the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve thread finish. Ensure the tap is aligned perpendicular to the workpiece surface before starting to prevent thread misalignment or tap breakage. Follow standard shop safety practices and secure the workpiece firmly before beginning any tapping operation.
