The CLE-LINE C23637 is an aircraft extension drill bit designed for reach-critical drilling applications where a standard-length bit cannot access the work area. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide finish, this bit features a 135-degree split point that self-centers on contact and reduces the need for a center punch. The 5/16-inch diameter and 6-inch overall length make it well-suited for drilling through aluminum sheet, structural tubing, and similar materials encountered in aviation, HVAC ductwork fabrication, and general metalworking. Web thinning reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation during extended-reach cuts.
The C23637 is used in applications where access depth or obstruction prevents use of a jobber-length bit. Common scenarios include drilling through framing members, duct flanges, equipment housings, and structural panels from awkward angles or in confined bays. The 3-3/16-inch spiral flute length and straight cylindrical shank allow use in standard drill chucks without adapters, and right-hand cutting direction is compatible with conventional drill motors and drill presses.
Designed as a general-purpose aircraft extension drill bit conforming to ASME B94.11M, compatible with any standard drill chuck accepting a 5/16-inch straight cylindrical shank.
Installation of this bit requires securing it firmly in a keyed or keyless drill chuck before operation. Disconnect or de-energize the drill motor before bit changes. Use appropriate cutting fluid when drilling ferrous materials to extend bit life and reduce heat buildup. Secure the workpiece before drilling to prevent rotation or movement during the cut.
