The CLE-LINE C20909 is a mechanics-length, high-speed steel drill bit engineered for drilling into steel and similar metals in tight-clearance applications. The 1/4 inch diameter cutting edge pairs with a 118-degree split point that self-centers on contact, reducing the need for a center punch and minimizing walking on hard surfaces. The hex shank measures 1/4 inch across flats and seats directly into quick-change hex chuck systems and standard 3-jaw chucks. With an overall length of 4.91 inches and a flute length of 2.75 inches, this bit is sized for the compact reach that mechanics and maintenance technicians require in confined work areas.
This bit is suited for general-purpose drilling in steel workpieces across residential maintenance, light industrial, and trade service applications. The mechanics-length body is shorter than a jobber-length bit, making it the preferred choice when working inside equipment enclosures, electrical panels, HVAC cabinets, or mechanical assemblies where a full-length bit would be obstructed. The hex shank makes it compatible with impact-ready quick-change drivers and standard drill chucks without an adapter.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement or stock bit for use with any drill or driver accepting a 1/4 inch hex shank, including quick-change systems and standard 3-jaw chucks. Primary workpiece material rating is steel (ISO material code P).
Installation is performed by a mechanic, electrician, plumber, or HVAC technician using a corded or cordless drill with a 1/4 inch hex or 3-jaw chuck. Ensure the workpiece is secured before drilling and use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling through thick steel stock to extend bit life. Disconnect power to any equipment before drilling into enclosures or panels. Dispose of worn bits properly - do not attempt to regrind a split-point tip without proper equipment.
