The CLE-LINE C18046 is a high-speed steel jobber-length drill bit sized to Letter S (0.3480 inches) with a 135-degree split point and a black and gold oxide coating. The split point geometry reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust force, making it well-suited for production drilling in steel and cast iron. At 4.875 inches overall length with a 3.5-inch flute, this bit follows the standard jobber proportions most technicians and machinists reach for as a general-purpose drill. The web-thinned, tapered web design improves chip evacuation and keeps cutting action aggressive without excessive heat buildup. It is manufactured to ASME B94.11M and DIN 338 standards.
This drill bit is intended for right-hand rotation and designed primarily for ferrous workpiece materials including steel and cast iron. It fits conventional drill chucks with a straight cylindrical shank of 0.3480 inches in diameter. The regular spiral flute pattern suits through-hole and blind-hole applications in maintenance, fabrication, and light manufacturing environments. With a heavy-duty grade rating and high-performance classification, it handles repetitive production cycles as well as one-off service work. The Series 1878 designation places it within CLE-LINE's jobber drill lineup built to consistent dimensional tolerances.
Designed as an OEM-style jobber drill replacement compatible with any standard drill press, handheld drill, or milling machine chuck that accepts a 0.3480-inch straight shank. Rated for primary use in steel and cast iron workpieces.
Installation is performed by machinists, fabricators, and maintenance technicians using standard 3-jaw or keyless chucks. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and confirm the bit runs true before cutting. When drilling steel or cast iron, use a cutting fluid appropriate for ferrous materials to extend bit life and improve hole finish. Do not exceed the recommended feed rate for the material; forcing the bit increases heat and risks premature edge failure.
