The CHICAGO-LATROBE 69870 is a 29-piece cobalt jobber length drill bit set designed for demanding metalworking applications. Each bit is manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, delivering elevated heat and wear resistance when cutting ferrous metals, stainless steel, and hard alloys. The 135-degree split-point tip reduces walking and eliminates the need for a center punch on most surfaces. Straight shanks are compatible with standard three-jaw chucks. This set is built to the NAS 907 specification, confirming dimensional and metallurgical consistency for professional use. It is sized from 1/16 inch to 1/2 inch in 1/64-inch increments and stored in a protective index case.
This drill bit set is suited for metal fabrication shops, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical contractors who drill through structural steel, sheet metal, cast iron, copper pipe, and similar hard materials on the job. The 29-piece fractional inch range covers the most common hole sizes encountered in trade work. The jobber length geometry balances rigidity with reach, making these bits practical for both bench drill press and hand-held drill motor use. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional drilling applications.
Designed for use with standard straight-shank drill chucks in bench drill presses and hand-held drill motors. Sized for inch-system metalworking applications across HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general fabrication trades.
Drill bit sets of this type are installed and serviced by HVAC technicians, plumbers, electricians, and metal fabricators working on structural and sheet metal. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and confirm chuck jaws are fully tightened. Apply cutting fluid when drilling stainless or hard alloys to reduce heat buildup and extend bit life. Reduce feed pressure as the bit breaks through the material to prevent grabbing or bit breakage.
