The CHICAGO-LATROBE 68918 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for heavy-duty drilling in steel alloy and similar ferrous materials. It is manufactured from high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish and features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and decreases the thrust needed to start a hole. The parabolic flute geometry improves chip evacuation, which matters most in deep-hole applications where chip packing can cause tool breakage. At 4.25 inches overall length with a 9/32-inch diameter, this bit fits standard drill chucks and is sized for typical structural and fabrication work performed by HVAC, plumbing, and electrical tradespeople.
This bit is suited for general trade drilling tasks including sheet metal penetrations, structural steel, angle iron, unistrut, and similar ferrous substrates encountered in mechanical and electrical installation work. The straight-cylindrical shank accepts any standard three-jaw chuck. The Series 150DH designation places this bit in CHICAGO-LATROBE's heavy-duty jobber line, intended for production and field drilling where bit life and hole quality are both priorities. It is sold individually and is appropriate for use in corded drills, right-angle drills, and drill presses.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit for use in standard three-jaw chucks on corded drills, right-angle drills, and drill presses. Primary workpiece material is steel alloy; the split point geometry also performs in other ferrous metals commonly encountered in trade work.
Secure the workpiece before drilling to prevent rotation and ensure a clean, accurate hole. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling steel alloy to extend bit life and maintain hole tolerance. Verify chuck is fully tightened and the bit is running true before engaging the workpiece. Wear appropriate eye protection in compliance with applicable job-site safety requirements.
