The CHICAGO-LATROBE 53902 is a jobber-length drill bit engineered for heavy-duty metal drilling applications. Built from high speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers extended tool life in demanding conditions. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust requirements compared to conventional 118-degree points. At 2-7/8 inches overall length with a 1-3/4 inch flute length and a 9/64 inch (0.1406 inch) diameter, this bit fits standard drill chucks and fits within the Series 150DHT design specification. It is suited for production drilling, maintenance work, and fabrication shops where consistent hole quality in steel alloy is required.
This drill bit is designed for drilling steel alloy and similar ferrous materials in residential, commercial, and light industrial settings. The parabolic flute geometry improves chip evacuation during deeper cuts, reducing heat buildup and the risk of bit binding. Right-hand cut orientation is standard for conventional drill press and hand drill operation. Licensed tradespeople in HVAC, plumbing, and electrical work routinely use bits of this type when drilling through structural steel, sheet metal brackets, and equipment panels. The straight-cylindrical shank seats cleanly in both keyed and keyless chucks.
Designed as an OEM-style jobber-length drill bit for use in any standard drill press, hand drill, or drill driver accepting a 9/64 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece material is steel alloy. Part of the CHICAGO-LATROBE Series 150DHT.
Install and operate by a qualified tradesperson or machinist following standard drilling safety practices. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and wear appropriate eye protection. Ensure the drill chuck is fully tightened on the shank before operation. Do not force the bit at excessive feed rates, as this can cause premature coating wear or tip breakage, particularly in hard alloy steel.
