The CHICAGO-LATROBE 53644 is a reduced shank cobalt drill bit designed for demanding metal drilling applications in trade and industrial settings. The bit measures 11/16 inches (0.6875 inches) in diameter with a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank, allowing it to chuck into standard 1/2 inch drill chucks despite the larger cutting diameter. The 118-degree split point geometry promotes self-centering and reduces walking on hard workpieces. Overall length is 6 inches with a 3-1/8 inch flute length, giving adequate clearance for most through-hole and blind-hole applications. Machinists, maintenance mechanics, and metal fabricators working with ferrous metals will find this bit well-suited to their workloads.
The 53644 is intended for portable drilling operations in ferrous metal environments. Primary target materials include cast iron and steel. Secondary compatible materials include alloy steel, carbon steel, and cast iron in various grades. The Series 190C-TN designation places this bit in a general-purpose cobalt line suited for job-site and shop use alike. The coated finish supports tool life in repetitive cutting cycles. This bit ships individually and is sold as a single unit.
Designed for use in portable drilling applications targeting cast iron, steel, alloy steel, and carbon steel workpieces. Fits any drill or drill press equipped with a standard 1/2 inch chuck.
Installation and use should be performed by machinists, maintenance mechanics, or qualified metal fabricators familiar with drill press and portable drill operation. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling to prevent rotation. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the bit if chipping or dulling is observed. No coolant is required per the manufacturer specification, but operator discretion applies when drilling thick stock or hard alloys.
